Event Details
Wisconsin legislators and staff are invited to a briefing on Dairy Economics and Policy with Dr. Mark Stephenson, Dairy Economist and Director of the University of Wisconsin Center for Dairy Profitability. Dairy farmers are facing their fifth straight year of negative income due to downward dairy markets. Demographics, personal business decisions and financial stress all play a role in the significant loss of dairy farms in recent years. It’s important to know the options available to assist the dairy industry especially when it comes to the area of supply and demand. At this educational event, Dr. Mark Stephenson, Director of Dairy Policy Analysis at the University of Wisconsin, will share encouraging results from recent analyses of federal dairy policies designed to reduce volatility in dairy markets and improve dairy farm profitability.  These policies also show promise for significantly reducing U.S. government expenditures on dairy programs and curbing farm loss. With important implications for the nation’s dairy farmers, dairy consumers, and taxpayers, this is a briefing you won't want to miss.
