SUMMARY:Rural Voices: Health Care in Wisconsin’s Farming Communities
DESCRIPTION:The Dodge-Fond du Lac-Sheboygan-Ozaukee chapter of Wisconsin Farmers Union is hosting "Rural Voices: Health Care in Wisconsin's Farming Communities" on Sunday\, August 23rd from 11-3pm at LaClare Family Creamery (W2994 County Rd HH\, Malone\, WI 53049). Join us for a shared meal\, to hear from Covering Wisconsin on how to get connected with health insurance and other programs that support health\, and to enjoy delicious ice cream and a self-guided farm tour. We know that healthcare is a top issue for rural WI\, and specifically for our farming communities. We want to ensure that our communities have access to quality\, affordable health care (including mental health care!) and that family farms can continue to thrive. These are challenging topics to discuss: but ice cream and petting goats always helps! Schedule below: 11-11:30: Arrivals- meet at the visitor center! 11:30-12:30: (optional) Lunch buffet\, catered by the farm ($18/person) 12:30-1:30: Healthcare information and resources 1:30-3pm: Self-guided tour of the farm. Play with the goats\, try their homemade goat milk ice cream\, and explore the gift shop! Participants can elect to have a lunch buffet from 11:30-12:30 for $18. This will consist of assorted sandwiches\, salads\, and drinks. Gluten-free and vegetarian choices will be available. Lunch is optional and participants can choose to arrive at 12:30 for the healthcare discussion and free tour of the farm.Register by Wednesday\, August 19th!Learn more about Covering Wisconsin and LaClare Family Creamery below: Covering Wisconsin (CWI) provides free\, expert help to anyone in Wisconsin to understand\, access\, use\, and keep health insurance. CWI Health Insurance Navigators are available year-round and throughout the state to help with Medicaid\, BadgerCare Plus\, and HealthCare.gov enrollment or figuring out the best coverage option. There are recent changes with open enrollment that impact immigrants and Wisconsin residents that they will cover. LaClare Family Creamery is one of the only 100% domestically produced goat cheese brands in the country\, sourcing their milk exclusively from local dairies. It began in the late 70's when Larry and Clara Hedrick bought a "hobby farm" in the heart of America's dairyland\, and their hobby quickly turned into an obsession. On their self-guided tours\, you can learn about the creamery cheeses\, take a behind-the-scenes look at their cheesemaking process\, and meet the goats onsite.
